In the US  it is called  call #ComfortFood. Are those foods that help the brain to make us feel more relaxed and satisfied. In Britain the Food & Mood Project Association studied for many years the link between diet and emotions. And if until a few decades ago it was thought that the nervous system was relatively immune to the effects of diet, today it was discovered that certain nutritional imbalances can also cause sadness and mood swings. “While there are no miracle foods able to hold off the melancholy – explained Dr. Andrea Ghiselli, senior researcher INRAN, National Research Institute for Food and Nutrition – some things in the daily diet can guarantee a brain more prone wellbeing   The effect “humor” – adds Ghiselli – is due to particular substances in food, or produced during their digestion, which act directly on the nervous system through chemical messengers called neurotransmitters.

The main ones are:

Serotonin, which is the hormone of relaxation. A deficiency can cause insomnia, depression and premenstrual syndrome.

Dopamine, which governs the gratification of said mechanism, according to which after a pleasant fact follows a feeling of wellbeing.

Endorphins, natural opioids produced by the brain, the effects of which are similar to those of morphine and cannabis, without the side effects. Working as real analgesics and have a euphoric effect.

Mashed potatoes, chocolate pudding, hot soups, meat loaf. Everyone has their own food “comforting.

It will be not the maximum for the silhuette, but it certainly is good for the soul.
